Itinerary

  1. Day 1Where Royalty Meets the Flavours of Malwa

Arrive at Indore, the vibrant commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh. Upon arrival, meet your driver and proceed towards the hotel. After check-in and some time to freshen up, begin your exploration of the city, where royal heritage, spirituality and a lively food culture come together.

Your first stop is Lal Bagh Palace, one of Indore's grandest royal residences. Built by the Holkar rulers, the palace reflects European-inspired architecture and the opulence of the Holkar era. Its imposing entrance, ornate interiors and expansive grounds offer a glimpse into the lifestyle of Indore's former royal family.

Continue to Rajwada Palace, the historic heart of Indore. This magnificent seven-storeyed structure represents a fascinating blend of Maratha, Mughal and French architectural influences. Standing in the bustling old city, Rajwada remains one of Indore's most recognisable landmarks and an important reminder of the city's royal past.

Next, visit Kanch Mandir, also known as the Glass Temple. This beautiful Jain temple is renowned for its intricate glass and mirror work, with walls, ceilings and decorative elements covered in finely crafted glass mosaics. The play of light across the interiors creates a distinctive and serene atmosphere.

Proceed to Khajrana Ganesh Mandir, one of Indore's most revered temples, dedicated to Lord Ganesha. The temple complex is an important pilgrimage centre and attracts devotees throughout the year.

As evening approaches, experience Indore's celebrated culinary culture. Visit 56 Dukan, a popular food destination known for its wide selection of snacks and local specialities. Later, head towards Sarafa Bazar, which transforms after sunset into a lively street-food destination. Savour some of Indore's famous delicacies while experiencing the energetic atmosphere of the city's night food market.

Return to the hotel for an overnight stay in Indore.

  2. Day 2A Day in the Abode of Mahakal

After breakfast, proceed for a full-day excursion to Ujjain, one of India's most ancient sacred cities and an important centre of Hindu pilgrimage. The city, situated on the banks of the Shipra River, is particularly renowned for the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga.

Begin your spiritual exploration with Navgrah Temple, associated with the nine celestial bodies of Hindu tradition. Devotees visit the temple to offer prayers connected with planetary influences and seek blessings for harmony and well-being.

Continue to Mangalnath Temple, traditionally regarded as the birthplace of Mars or Mangal. Set in a peaceful location overlooking the Shipra, the temple has an important place in Ujjain's religious traditions.

Visit Gad Kalika Temple, an ancient shrine dedicated to Goddess Kalika. The temple is particularly associated with the worship of Shakti and has long been connected with the religious and cultural traditions of Ujjain.

Next, visit Sandipani Ashram, traditionally associated with the sage Sandipani and the education of Lord Krishna, Lord Balarama and Sudama. The site is therefore closely connected with the Krishna traditions of Ujjain.

Continue to Kal Bhairav Temple, one of the city's most distinctive temples dedicated to Lord Bhairav. The temple holds an important place in the religious traditions of Ujjain and is visited by pilgrims throughout the year.

Later, proceed to Ram Ghat, one of the most prominent bathing ghats along the Shipra River. The riverfront becomes especially atmospheric during religious ceremonies and evening prayers.

Visit Harsiddhi Mata Temple, one of Ujjain's revered Shakti temples. The temple is recognised for its distinctive deep-stambhas, or towering lamp pillars, which create a spectacular sight when illuminated.

Conclude the pilgrimage with a visit to Mahakaleshwar Temple, home to one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The temple is among the most important pilgrimage sites in Ujjain and is deeply associated with the city's identity as a sacred centre.

After completing the day's sightseeing, return to Indore for an overnight stay.

  3. Day 3Where the Narmada Flows Through Eternity

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and proceed towards Omkareshwar, a sacred island town situated on the Narmada River. The island is traditionally associated with the sacred symbol Om, giving the destination its distinctive spiritual significance.

Upon arrival, visit Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga, one of the twelve revered Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple attracts pilgrims from across India and forms the spiritual centrepiece of the town.

Also visit Mamleshwar Temple, situated on the mainland opposite Omkareshwar. The temple is an important Shiva shrine and is traditionally associated with the Omkareshwar pilgrimage.

After the temple visit, continue your journey towards Maheshwar, a historic riverside town that flourished under the Holkar dynasty and is beautifully situated along the banks of the Narmada.

Upon arrival, visit the magnificent Maheshwar Fort. Rising dramatically above the Narmada, the fort complex reflects the town's royal heritage and is closely associated with Ahilyabai Holkar, the revered Holkar queen who made Maheshwar her capital.

Explore the Rajrajeshwar Temple, a beautiful Shiva temple within the historic town. Its spiritual atmosphere and traditional architecture complement the grandeur of the surrounding fort complex.

Later, spend time at the Narmada Ghats, where the stone steps descend gracefully towards the sacred river. The ghats, temples and fort rising above the Narmada create one of Maheshwar's most memorable landscapes. The peaceful riverfront is particularly enchanting as the changing light reflects upon the waters and the historic architecture.

After exploring Maheshwar, proceed towards Indore and check in to the hotel for an overnight stay.

  4. Day 4The Romance of Mandu in Stone

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and proceed towards Mandu, the historic fortified city perched high in the Vindhya ranges. Often described as the City of Joy, Mandu is celebrated for its spectacular medieval architecture, romantic legends and dramatic landscapes.

Begin your Mandu exploration with Baz Bahadur Palace, an elegant complex associated with Sultan Baz Bahadur. Its spacious courtyard, surrounding halls and elevated terraces demonstrate the architectural character of medieval Mandu, while the surrounding landscape provides beautiful views across the plateau.

Continue to Rani Roopmati Pavilion, perched on a hilltop overlooking the countryside. Originally constructed as an observation structure, the pavilion is closely associated with the legendary romance of Baz Bahadur and Rani Roopmati. Its elevated position provides sweeping views over the Nimar plains and, on clear days, towards the distant Narmada valley.

Next, visit Jahaz Mahal, one of Mandu's most distinctive monuments. Built between the artificial lakes of Munj Talao and Kapur Talao, the long, narrow palace appears like a ship floating upon the water, giving it the name Jahaz Mahal, or Ship Palace. Its pavilions, terraces and water features demonstrate the sophistication of Mandu's royal architecture.

Conclude the heritage tour with Hindola Mahal, popularly known as the Swinging Palace. The monument derives its name from its dramatically sloping side walls, which give the structure the appearance of a giant swing. Originally associated with the royal audience complex, its restrained ornamentation and massive architectural proportions make it one of Mandu's most recognisable monuments.

After completing the sightseeing, begin the journey back to Indore. Upon arrival, proceed to Indore Airport / Railway Station for your onward journey, carrying with you memories of sacred temples, royal cities, the timeless Narmada and the architectural splendour of Malwa.

Tour Ends with Beautiful Memories of Madhya Pradesh.
