About Rann Utsav 2026–27

Rann Utsav is Gujarat's winter festival at Dhordo, on the edge of the White Rann of Kutch: a vast white salt desert that glows at sunrise, at sunset and under a full moon. Around it, a seasonal Tent City brings Kutchi music, dance, craft and food together.

Dhordo, the village closest to the White Rann, was named one of the Best Tourism Villages by the UN World Tourism Organization in 2023. It is known for its intricate mud craft and the Mutwa embroidery of the Banni communities. Visitors come for the salt desert, and stay for the culture, the food and the unhurried evenings.

Beyond the festival grounds, Kutch rewards a longer look: the craft villages around Bhuj, the hilltop view at Kalo Dungar, the palaces and museums of Bhuj, and the quiet coast at Mandvi. That is why many Travelbee Tours holidays combine the White Rann with a little more of Kutch.

A note on the Tent City. Rann Utsav – The Tent City is operated by Evoke Experiences in collaboration with Gujarat Tourism. Travelbee Tours sells Rann Utsav packages as an independent travel company: we plan and coordinate your holiday, but we do not own or operate the Tent City or any hotel.

The Rann Utsav experience

  • White Rann at sunrise and sunset

The salt flats turn pink, gold and then blue as the light changes. Plan time for both ends of the day.

  • Full-moon and starry nights

Evenings of Kutchi folk performances, part of the festival atmosphere at Dhordo.

  • Mandvi and the coast

Beyond the White Rann

Not every place is part of every package. We group them so you can see what belongs to Rann Utsav, what is Kutch sightseeing, and what is an optional extra.

We recently completed our Gujarat tour covering Kutch (Tent City), Dwarka, Somnath and Ahmedabad with Travelbee Tours, and it was a wonderful experience for our family. The entire trip was very well planned and smoothly executed — right from travel arrangements to hotel stays and local sightseeing. Visiting the beautiful Rann Utsav Tent City, the divine Dwarkadhish Temple, the sacred Somnath Temple, and exploring Ahmedabad was truly memorable. A special thanks to Mr. Jay Sanghvi, who ensured everything was taken care of perfectly. His coordination, prompt responses, and attention to detail made the trip completely hassle-free. He was always available for guidance and made sure we were comfortable throughout the journey. Overall, it was a very pleasant and well-organized trip, and

How to reach Rann Utsav

Rann Utsav is at Dhordo in Kutch. Most travellers reach Bhuj first, by flight, train or road, and then drive to Dhordo, about 80 km away. Allow roughly two hours for the drive. We can arrange the road transfer, or a private vehicle for the whole trip.

Nearest airport and railway station

Bhuj has both the nearest airport and the nearest railway station. Check current flight and train schedules for your dates, because timings change from season to season.

Coming from Ahmedabad

Dhordo is roughly 400 km from Ahmedabad, which makes the road journey most of a day. Many travellers prefer to take a train or flight to Bhuj and continue by road. Bhuj is also well connected by road to the rest of Gujarat.

Best time to visit and typical duration

Winter is the season, roughly November to February, when days are pleasant and the salt flats are dry. Two nights is a comfortable minimum; three to five nights lets you add Kutch sightseeing without rushing.

Weather and what to carry

Days are usually warm and sunny, but desert nights can be cold. Carry layers and a warm jacket, sunglasses, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, a power bank and your personal medicines. Keep a government photo ID with you for the entry permit and hotel check-in.

When is Rann Utsav 2026–27?

The organisers have announced 1 November 2026 to 7 March 2027 for the Tent City season. Dates can be revised, so we reconfirm them before you book. The White Rann itself is usually at its best in the cooler months, roughly November to February.

How many days are enough for Rann Utsav?

Two nights is a comfortable minimum for the White Rann and the festival, because the road from Bhuj to Dhordo takes a couple of hours each way. Three to five nights lets you add Kalo Dungar, craft villages, Bhuj and Mandvi without rushing.

How do I reach Rann Utsav from Ahmedabad?

Dhordo is roughly 400 km from Ahmedabad, so plan on most of a day by road. Many travellers instead take a train or flight to Bhuj and drive on to Dhordo, which is about 80 km from Bhuj. Check current train and flight schedules for your date; we can arrange the road transfer.

Where should I stay for Rann Utsav?

There are three common choices: the Tent City at Dhordo (operated by the festival's Tent City operator, not by Travelbee Tours; availability depends on your dates), hotels and resorts near Dhordo, or a base in Bhuj with day trips. The Tent City puts you closest to the festival; Bhuj gives more sightseeing and hotel choice. We will explain the trade-offs for your dates.

What is included in a Rann Utsav package?

It depends on the package and the property. A Travelbee Tours package can cover accommodation, meals where applicable, transfers, sightseeing and a driver, but only what is written in your quotation is included. Can I combine Rann Utsav with Mandvi?

Yes, and it is a natural pairing. Mandvi is on the Kutch coast, roughly an hour from Bhuj, with a long beach, the Vijay Vilas Palace and traditional wooden shipbuilding yards. Travelbee Tours is based in Mandvi, so we know it well.

What is the best time to visit the White Rann?

Winter, from about November to February, when days are pleasant and the salt flats are dry. Sunrise, sunset and full-moon nights are the highlights. Nights can be cold, so pack layers. Diwali, full-moon nights, Christmas and New Year are the busiest periods.

How early should I book Rann Utsav accommodation?

As early as your plans allow, especially for Diwali, full-moon nights, Christmas–New Year and long weekends, when the Tent City and good hotels near Dhordo fill first. Send us your dates and we will tell you what is realistic.

Do I need a permit to visit the White Rann?

Visitors entering the White Rann at Dhordo need an entry permit. Gujarat's official online portal is rannpermit.gujarat.gov.in, and you should carry a valid photo ID. Rules and fees can change, so check the portal for current details; we can guide you through it.
