Desert horizons, sacred shores and the wild heart of Gujarat. 9 Days / 8 Nights Discover Gujarat through a journey that brings together the historic palaces of Bhuj, the vast white landscapes of the Rann of Kutch, the spiritual shores of Dwarka and Somnath, the coastal charm of Diu, and the wilderness of Sasan Gir. From centuries-old heritage and revered temples to scenic coastal drives and the thrill of a wildlife safari, each day offers a different perspective on the region’s culture, history and natural beauty.
Arrive in Bhuj, the historic heart of Kutch, where traditional craftsmanship, royal legacy and resilient local culture come together. Meet your driver and transfer to the hotel. After check-in and some time to freshen up, begin exploring the city’s celebrated heritage.
Aina Mahal — The Palace of Mirrors
Visit Aina Mahal, an extraordinary 18th-century palace commissioned during the reign of Maharao Lakhpatji. Known for its intricate mirror work, decorative glass, ornate interiors and European-influenced design, the palace reflects the artistic ambition and cosmopolitan taste of Kutch’s royal court. Its elaborate rooms offer a glimpse into the region’s princely past.
Prag Mahal — A Monument of Grand Architecture
Continue to Prag Mahal, an imposing palace built in the 19th century in an Italian Gothic style. Its striking stone façade, tall clock tower, arched windows and spacious halls make it one of Bhuj’s most distinctive landmarks. The architecture stands apart from traditional regional palaces and offers a fascinating contrast to the older royal residences nearby.
Smritivan Earthquake Museum — A Tribute to Resilience
Visit Smritivan Earthquake Museum, a moving memorial and educational space dedicated to the victims of the devastating 2001 Gujarat earthquake. Through immersive exhibits and interactive displays, the museum explores the earthquake, disaster preparedness, community resilience and the rebuilding of Kutch. Set on Bhujia Hill, the wider memorial complex also offers expansive views over Bhuj and the surrounding landscape.
After sightseeing, return to the hotel and enjoy a relaxed evening. Overnight stay in Bhuj.
After breakfast, set out towards the dramatic landscapes of northern Kutch. The journey reveals open countryside, traditional villages and the distinctive terrain that makes this region unlike anywhere else in Gujarat.
Kalo Dungar — The Black Hill of Kutch
Explore Kalo Dungar, the highest point in Kutch, renowned for its panoramic views across the Great Rann. On a clear day, the vast salt flats stretch towards the horizon, creating a striking sense of scale and stillness. The area is also associated with the Dattatreya Temple, a place of local religious significance. The changing light over the white landscape makes this one of the region’s most memorable viewpoints.
The Rann of Kutch — A Sea of White
Continue to the Great Rann of Kutch, an immense seasonal salt marsh that transforms into a spectacular white expanse during the dry months. Walk across the salt desert, admire the open sky and experience the remarkable quiet of this otherworldly landscape. Around sunset, the white terrain can take on soft shades of gold, rose and silver, creating an unforgettable scene.
Depending on the chosen stay and operating dates, you may also have time to experience the Rann Utsav area, where Kutch’s folk music, dance, handicrafts and regional cuisine are celebrated during the festival season. Festival access and activities depend on the dates and arrangements confirmed for the trip.
Check in to your accommodation in the Rann region and enjoy the evening amid the distinctive desert atmosphere. Overnight stay in the Rann region.
Begin the day with breakfast before travelling towards Dwarka, one of India’s most revered pilgrimage destinations. En route, experience the striking scenery of the Road to Heaven, a scenic causeway through the salt flats and wetlands of the Kutch region.
Road to Heaven — A Journey Across the Open Landscape
The Road to Heaven is celebrated for its long, open stretch through the distinctive terrain of Kutch. Wide skies, shimmering flats and the sense of travelling through an immense natural canvas make the drive especially photogenic. Conditions and views vary with season, water levels and weather, so brief stops should be made only at safe, permitted locations.
Continue the drive to Dwarka, the sacred city traditionally associated with Lord Krishna. On arrival, check in to your hotel and take time to relax after the journey. The remainder of the day is kept at leisure, allowing you to enjoy the city’s devotional atmosphere at your own pace.
Overnight stay in Dwarka.

Darshan timings may vary on festival days and during special rituals; visitors should follow temple rules and dress respectfully.
Gomati Ghat — Where the River Meets the Sacred City
Walk along Gomati Ghat, situated near the Dwarkadhish Temple, where pilgrims gather for prayer and ritual bathing. The steps descend towards the Gomati River’s meeting point with the sea, and the surrounding shrines and waterside views lend the place a calm, devotional character.

Continue to Bhadkeshwar Mahadev Temple, a Shiva shrine set on a rocky outcrop beside the sea. Surrounded by waves and coastal views, the temple offers a distinctive setting for prayer and quiet reflection. During high tide, access conditions can change, so follow local guidance and any safety restrictions.
Shivrajpur Beach — An Evening by Turquoise Waters
In the evening, visit Shivrajpur Beach, known for its clear waters, pale sand and scenic coastline. It is a lovely place to unwind after a day of temple visits and enjoy the changing colours of the sky over the Arabian Sea. Beach access, water activities and facilities may be subject to local regulations, weather and operating hours.
Return to the hotel for an overnight stay in Dwarka.
Today’s journey explores important places associated with the legends of Lord Krishna, combining temple visits with the coastal and rural landscapes around Dwarka.
Rukmini Devi Temple — A Shrine of Devotion
Begin with Rukmini Devi Temple, dedicated to Rukmini, the consort of Lord Krishna. Located a short drive from Dwarka, the temple is admired for its finely sculpted exterior, detailed carvings and traditional architectural features. Local legends connect the shrine with the story of Rukmini and the importance of offering water to sages.
Bet Dwarka — Across the Waters to Krishna’s Island
Proceed to Bet Dwarka, an island traditionally linked with Lord Krishna’s residence. Visit the temple and experience the strong devotional atmosphere that draws pilgrims to the island. Access arrangements can vary; the journey may involve road access over Sudarshan Setu and local transfers depending on the route and current arrangements. Allow extra time for security checks, queues and temple darshan.
Gopi Talav — A Place of Krishna Legends
Continue to Gopi Talav, a small sacred lake associated in local tradition with the gopis of Vrindavan and their devotion to Lord Krishna. The site is linked with the legend of Gopi Chandan, the pale yellow clay traditionally used by devotees for tilak. Its quiet setting offers a pause for reflection between the region’s more prominent pilgrimage sites.
Nageshwar Jyotirling Temple — A Revered Shrine of Lord Shiva
Conclude the day at Nageshwar Jyotirling Temple, an important Shiva pilgrimage destination near Dwarka. The temple is associated with one of the twelve Jyotirlingas revered by devotees of Lord Shiva, and its prominent statue and temple complex make it a notable landmark. Spend time in prayer or observe the devotional rituals, subject to the temple’s schedule and visitor guidelines.
Return to Dwarka for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, depart for Somnath, travelling along Gujarat’s Saurashtra coast. The route offers changing views of rural settlements, coastal terrain and the landscapes of the Kathiawar peninsula. On arrival, explore important pilgrimage sites associated with the life of Lord Krishna and the sacred history of Somnath.
Bhalka Tirth — A Place of Remembrance
Visit Bhalka Tirth, traditionally regarded as the place where Lord Krishna was struck by an arrow and where the events leading to his departure from the earthly world are remembered. The temple and memorial carry deep significance for devotees and provide a quiet setting for reflection.
Triveni Sangam — The Sacred Confluence
Proceed to Triveni Sangam, traditionally identified as the confluence of the Hiran, Kapila and Saraswati rivers near the Arabian Sea. Considered sacred in Hindu tradition, the site is visited for prayer and ritual observances. The river channels and visible water conditions may vary seasonally.
Baan Ganga — A Coastal Sacred Site
Visit Baan Ganga, a coastal religious site in the Somnath area associated with local traditions and legends. The setting combines spiritual significance with views of the shoreline. The exact accessibility of the site and time available will depend on road conditions and the day’s schedule.
Somnath Jyotirling Temple — The Eternal Shrine by the Sea
Conclude the day at Somnath Jyotirling Temple, one of the most revered Shiva temples in India and a major pilgrimage centre on the Arabian Sea. The temple has a long history of destruction and reconstruction and stands as a symbol of enduring faith. Its imposing architecture and seafront location create a powerful atmosphere, particularly in the evening. If time permits, attend the evening aarti or the temple’s sound-and-light presentation, subject to the published schedule and ticketing arrangements.
Check in to the hotel and stay overnight in Somnath.
After breakfast, drive to Diu, a coastal destination known for its historic Portuguese-era architecture, relaxed atmosphere and beaches. After arrival, explore the island’s heritage and natural attractions.
Diu Fort — A Legacy of Portuguese Maritime History
Explore Diu Fort, a monumental coastal fortification built during Portuguese rule. Overlooking the Arabian Sea, it features massive stone walls, bastions, gateways and expansive ocean views. The fort reflects Diu’s strategic importance in maritime trade and colonial history, and its walkways offer excellent views of the coastline.
Gangeshwar Mahadev Temple — Shiva Shrines by the Sea
Visit Gangeshwar Mahadev Temple, a distinctive shrine located close to the shoreline. The temple is known for its five Shiva lingas, traditionally associated with the Pandavas, and for waves that wash over the rocks around the shrine during suitable tidal conditions. Access and visibility can be affected by the tide, so follow local safety advice.
Nagoa Beach — A Crescent of Sand and Sea
Spend time at Nagoa Beach, one of Diu’s best-known beaches, recognised for its curved shoreline, palm-lined surroundings and relaxed seaside atmosphere. Enjoy a stroll along the sand or simply take in the sea breeze. Swimming and water sports should be undertaken only where permitted and when conditions are safe.
Enjoy the evening at leisure in Diu. It is an inviting place to unwind and welcome the New Year by the coast. Any special events or dining arrangements should be confirmed in advance. Overnight stay in Diu.
After breakfast, depart Diu for Sasan Gir, home to the renowned Gir landscape and the last natural habitat of the Asiatic lion. The journey moves from coastal scenery towards the dry deciduous forests, scrublands and grasslands of the region.
Sasan Gir — The Realm of the Asiatic Lion
On arrival, prepare for a wildlife safari, subject to the confirmed permit and reporting time. The Gir ecosystem supports Asiatic lions as well as leopards, deer, antelope, crocodiles and a wide variety of birdlife. A safari offers an opportunity to observe wildlife in its natural habitat, accompanied by authorised local personnel.
Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed; the experience depends on animal movement, season, weather and forest conditions. Safari permits should be booked in advance through the authorised system, and visitors must follow all forest regulations, remain in the designated vehicle and avoid disturbing animals.
After the safari, transfer to your accommodation and relax. Overnight stay in the Sasan Gir area.
Enjoy breakfast and take in the final moments of your journey through Gujarat’s diverse landscapes.
